Miranda Lambert, A Country Queen

At 16 years old, Miranda Lambert knew where she wanted to be, in country music. She appeared on the same talent show that helped start LeAnn Rhimes career, the Johnnie High Country Revue. She later went went to a recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee but left quickly because she was being presented with “pop” style music. She asked her father to teach her how to play guitar so she could write her own music and then she was on her way. A year later she hit the scene with a self released album called Miranda Lambert.

It was not until 4 years later in 2005 that she released a second album with Epic Nashville called Kerosene. 11 of the 12 songs on the album were either written or co-written by Lambert herself. The album itself hit number one on the U.S Billboard Top Country Album chart. Her single “Kerosene” peaked at 15 on the U.S. Country charts. The album went platinum, meaning it sold at least a million copies, and truly introduced Miranda Lambert music to its new audience. After Kerosene’s success, Lambert was off to the races. Just over two years later she released her album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend with the label Columbia Records, which is owned by the same parent company as Epic Nashville. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend solidified Lambert’s personal brand as country music’s tough girl. Lambert stayed true to herself writing or co-writing 8 of the 11 songs on this album, with her song “Gunpowder & Lead” peaking at number seven on the charts. The album as a whole hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Album chart and went double platinum in the process.

Since Kerosene and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Lambert has put out an album every two years. Her next album, titled Revolution was released by Columbia Records in September, 2009. This is the album that really set solidified Lambert’s career in country music. Revolution had two singles that his number one on the charts, including “The House that Built Me” and “Heart Like Mine.” Her single “White Liar” peaked at number 2 on the charts. The album went double platinum as well and peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Album chart. This album however, was a little different for Lambert as it resulted in multiple award nominations and two wins. At the 45th Academy of Country Music Awards, Revolution won Album of the Year. At the 44th Country Music Association Awards it also won Album of the Year. The album was nominated for a Teen Choice Award, an American Country Award, an American Music Award, and a Grammy. It was at this point that it was the music of Miranda Lambert could now be considered a staple of country music itself.

Lambert’s next three albums, Four the Record(2011), Platinum(2014), and The Weight of These Wings(2016), all went platinum, all peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Album chart, and were all met with widespread critical acclaim. Miranda Lambert has not slowed down.

During her solo career, Lambert has also been releasing music with the group the Pistol Annies, the newest album having been released in 2018 entitled Interstate Gospel.
